Lisandro Martinez ‘will almost certainly’ leave Ajax for Manchester United this summer after the clubs struck a €55m deal for his transfer.
That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who say the player ‘gets his way’ and the ‘dream transfer’ to Old Trafford he was looking for.
He made it clear after his holidays that he did not want to miss out on the unique opportunity to join Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, and so that left the club’s management will ‘little choice’ but to seek a deal.
After two rejected bids, United chiefs Richard Arnold and John Murtough flew to Amsterdam on Tuesday to try to get Martinez ‘on the plane’.
That is something they succeeded in, striking a €55m deal with Ajax for the transfer to take place. They also already have an ‘agreement’ in place with the defender.
Formalities such as the payment structure, medical examination and the rest of the paperwork will ‘most likely be completed this week’.
Martinez will then be free to link up with his former manager and Manchester United on their pre-season tour on Australia if things go to plan.
Ajax will receive a ‘huge jackpot’ for the player, and his departure is considered a major loss for the Dutch side but his stance was made clear and has forced them into doing a deal.
