Matz Sels arrived at Nottingham Forest from RC Strasbourg in January and has been their first-choice goalkeeper since then.
Earlier this week, the 32-year-old had revealed he decided to join the Reds “within a few hours” because they made an approach on deadline day.
He’s had a chat with De Morgen, discussing more details about his move to Nottingham Forest.
Sels again states he had to make a quick decision over moving to Nottingham Forest. He’s now admitted there was a risk factor in leaving the French club for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
The stopper, who spent over five years at Strasbourg, was a regular and happy with his life in France. At the same time, the English club were battling to avoid relegation in the past two seasons.
“Going to Nottingham on deadline day in January was a risk. I only got a few hours to decide, even though I was happy to be seen at Strasbourg,” he said.
“In hindsight, it worked out well. Then again, it was a calculated risk as Nottingham were never in the last three but always just above the relegation zone.”
Nottingham Forest have enjoyed an impressive season so far and are currently fifth in the table, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. The Belgian has starred, keeping four clean sheets and conceding 10 goals from 11 matches.
On the Reds’ start and goal for this season, Sels explained: “Today we are performing above expectations. Winning three times in a row is something that didn’t happen at Nottingham since 2000.
“Of course, we are only eleven games in. The objective remains to reach 40 points as quickly as possible. Then we are sure that we will stay in the Premier League. After that, we may be able to set a new target: top 10, or perhaps even top eight.”
