Arsenal youngster Nikolaj Moller has admitted he was “amazed” when the Gunners came calling for him in October 2020.

The striker has been speaking to Voetbalzone in the Netherlands about his career so far, which currently has him on loan at FC Den Bosch from Arsenal until the end of the season.

Moller started his career in his homeland with Malmo before a move to Bologna’s U17s in August 2018.

He spent two years there before returning to Malmo for nine months before Arsenal came calling in October 2020, taking him to the Emirates in a €500,000 deal.

He’s been working his way up their ranks since then, featuring for the U23’s as well as enjoying loan spells with Viktoria Koln and then FC Den Bosch this season.

It remains to be seen if he is an Arsenal star of the future or his career takes him elsewhere, but for him the move was a dream one anyway.

“As a child, I watched foreign football more than the Allsvenskan,” he said.

“Barcelona and Arsenal were my favourite clubs. When they played in the Champions League, I always watched those matches full of passion. That’s why it was extra special for me when my father told me Arsenal were coming to watch me in Sweden.

“I didn’t think about leaving at Malmö at all, as I felt completely at home. Until my father woke me up one day and told me Arsenal were coming to watch my game. I was really amazed.”

Despite not featuring for the first team as yet, Moller has brushed shoulders with some big names at Arsenal to date.

He’s already played alongside the likes of William Saliba, Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli for the reserves, as well as competing with them in training on occasion as well.

It is not any of that list which have made the ‘biggest impression’ on him, though, but instead former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.

“He was abnormally good. I had never seen such a player from so close,” he added.

“Ozil felt the game so well and saw things that I will never be able to see. Really enjoyable. He thinks so fast. Before you try to intervene, he is already one step further.

“I will never forget that I was able to train with him. It is of course a dream to be able to train with such a player at a young age.”
