With Southampton looking to sign a new right-back, Feyenoord’s Marcus Pedersen has appeared in the transfer rumour mill.
The 22-year-old arrived in the Netherlands from Molde last season, and impressed with his performances, clearly catching the eye of the Saints.
Whether Southampton make a move for him remains to be seen, but what is certain is that Pedersen himself wouldn’t totally be against a transfer to St Mary’s if it presented itself.
The player said this to ESPN, who asked him various questions about his future, and while he acknowledged that staying at Feyenoord certainly wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, the Saints remain an attractive option.
Relayed by FR12.nl, he said: “I am a player who has never been afraid to take another step to a higher league. Southampton have shown for years that they can develop young talents and sell them onto bigger clubs. I haven’t spoken to them myself. I don’t deal with the many rumours, but focus on football.”
Arriving for £900k, the Norway international made 47 appearances in all competitions for Feyenoord last season, picking up five assists and just three yellow cards.
Now we wait and see if Southampton make their move, and, if they do, how much for.
