On Wednesday morning we covered a report from AS which went with a headline saying ‘Waiting for Jonny’.
Atletico Madrid and Wolves were said to have already agreed on a permanent transfer for the player, with the rojiblancos pursuing the potential deal for around a week.
Signing Alvaro Morata from Chelsea on loan for 18 months, and unable to bring in any money for Nikola Kalinic, the Spanish club decided they could make a good and quick profit on the fullback.
AS weren’t clear whether they meant the clubs were waiting for Jonny’s decision or not, but now it seems there were.
Spain’s Cadena Ser reports that Jonny has now accepted the permanent transfer to Wolves. They go on to state that the deal should be announced ‘in the next few hours’, putting this one to bed.
Wolves will simply take over the four years of contract the player had agreed with Atletico, which seems very reasonable on Jonny’s behalf if true. An agent would usually use this kind of situation for a pay rise.
Cope radio say the deal is worth €15m.
