On Friday, it was explained that Bayer Leverkusen, fully aware that clubs are interested in Moussa Diaby, aren’t going to let their French star go for cheap.
Newcastle United were said to be interested in the player back in January, with Téléfoot reporting the news originally, and while no bid was planned for the winter transfer market, the idea of a summer move was certainly on the cards.
The winger would offer a great complement to Allan Saint-Maximin on the wings at St James’ Park, but getting him to the north of England will come at a great cost.
L’Equipe said €100m might be needed, which led to the English media suggesting Newcastle could offer €60m.
Well, RMC Sport in France believe somewhere in the middle would be the right fee, although it’s made clear that €60m won’t be enough.
The outlet state Bayer Leverkusen are ‘banking on capitalising on the great season (15 goals in 31 games)’ Diaby is having to ‘get a big sum’.
For that, they are using Kai Havertz as the benchmark, with it explained the Bundesliga side would ask ‘as much, if not more’ than the €80m paid by Chelsea for the German.
That just shows how highly they value Diaby, and is something Newcastle will have to keep in mind if they come knocking for the Frenchman in the near future.
