Earlier today, we covered a report from Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo which joined the chorus of newspapers and other media outlets claiming Cristian Romero is keen on joining Atletico Madrid this summer.
The problem in the way of a transfer was put down as cost. Tottenham Hotspur were said to be asking for €80m, whereas Atletico Madrid were considering an offer in the region of €40-50m.
Over at AS, another of the main Spanish sport newspapers, they report similar, but put the Spurs asking price at a lower level. AS believe that if Tottenham win the Europa League, and therefore qualify for the Champions League, they’ll be asking for around €70m to part ways with Romero.
Atletico Madrid’s potential offer is again put at €40-50m, so whilst the gap is smaller it’s still quite some amount.
Romero is said to be ‘delighted’ by the prospect of joining the Spanish club, and Atletico would like to get a deal done before the Club World Cup.
However, it’s acknowledged that Tottenham will be a difficult club to negotiate with… and that will be especially true given how big the gap is.
