If Chelsea do change owners before the transfer window and all goes to plan, there could be some changes at Stamford Bridge in the coming months.
Other than trying to keep half of their defence, there is the Romelu Lukaku problem that needs to be solved, as the Belgian hasn’t exactly thrived under Thomas Tuchel, who doesn’t appear to be the biggest fan of the striker.
Having paid over £100m to bring the player back to Chelsea, the club will want to get most of that money back from a sale, or, at the very least, ensure they don’t have to pay any of his wages if he were to go out on loan.
Either way, there is one club who are keeping an eye on him, and that’s Barcelona, who are clearly in the hunt for a new striker.
They have been linked with Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski in the past couple of months after securing the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but their ‘Plan C’ is Lukaku.
That’s according to Marca, who explain to their readers that the Belgium international ‘is not comfortable at Chelsea’.
In fact, ‘everything indicates that he will leave London’ in the summer, which is ‘what the player is saying and there are several interested teams’.
Barcelona have already made the first move, as ‘Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff have already met with Federico Pastorello, the player’s representative, to see the possibilities of signing the striker’.
However, ‘it will be a very complicated operation’, as Chelsea ‘still have €92m left to pay off’, but ‘there has been no firm movement’ as of yet.
To summarise, ‘the two parties know what the situation is’, and a lot could depend on what the next owners want to do with the current squad at Stamford Bridge.
