If you’re not aware, Brighton and Hove Albion will be adding a striker to their squad this summer, in the shape of Deniz Undav.
The SG Union forward agreed to join the Seagulls in January, sealing a £6.3m deal that will see him move to the Premier League in the summer.
He will arrive in England after a fantastic season in which he’s scored 26 goals and registered 13 assists so far, numbers that have him among the best in Europe.
Indeed, only Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe have been involved in more goal contributions in Europe’s top ten leagues this season, an impressive achievement, to say the least.
The hope is that Brighton have finally gotten themselves the goalscorer that they really need, and there is plenty of excitement about the move.
Het Laatste Nieuws cover the player today, talking to those who’ve been involved throughout the striker’s career and development so far.
The piece explains how everyone is gearing up for the move, including his former youth club TSV Achim who will ‘receive a hefty sum of money from Brighton’ as compensation for training Undav as a youngster.
That saw the newspaper talk to his coach from that time, Jens Janssen, who believes Undav has planned his career perfectly.
“Deniz was small and powerful, ball-hungry and very lazy,” he told them.
“Running was not his thing. But he made up for that with his talent. He always wanted to score.
“Sometimes I had to slow him down: ‘You have to pass the ball to a teammate. Then he would say: ‘There is the goal; the ball has to go into that corner.
“Werder (Bremen)thought he was too small; they preferred big fast strikers. I thought that was nonsense.
“I thought, ‘What is he doing in the Belgian second division at Union? Is he crazy?’ But then I read up on Union’s history and Brighton’s British owner. Yes, there is a plan behind it.”
