Aston Villa could be the next destination for Southampton’s Jan Bednarek, if a report from Poland is to be believed.
The centre-back started the first two league games for the Saints and was taken off after 70 minutes in their second tie against Leeds United. He played the full 90 minutes in his side’s EFL Cup win over Cambridge United earlier this week.
Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk told Meczyki.pl’s program, Okno Transferowe, that the Southampton player is ‘getting closer’ to Aston Villa.
It’s claimed Steven Gerrard’s side would take the 26-year-old on a season-long loan deal. The Poland international has other options to leave Southampton, but the journalist says he is betting on the player to join Aston Villa.
Włodarczyk further adds the player’s time at Southampton is ‘slowly coming to an end’, even though he has three years left on his contract at St Mary’s Stadium.

There’s no mention, at least in the tweet, whether Villa will have an option or obligation to convert Bednarek’s loan deal into a permanent transfer next summer.
