Leeds United’s Ian Poveda has been on loan at Sheffield Wednesday since January and his future beyond this season remains uncertain.
The winger arrived at Leeds in 2020 and has failed to impress for the Whites, resulting in loan moves to Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday.
His deal at Leeds lasts until June and AS in Colombia state four clubs are keen on signing the 24-year-old on a free transfer in the summer window.
At Sheffield Wednesday, he mainly operated as a midfielder, registering an assist from 10 games, and has enjoyed regular minutes, which wasn’t made available to him to Elland Road.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has expressed his desire to retain Poveda, but that won’t be easy because Burnley, Luton Town and Sunderland are also in the race to sign him.
Both Burnley and Luton Town are currently in the danger zone and risk being relegated from the Premier League. The two clubs are keen on adding the Colombia international to their squad next season.
It’s likely that all four teams would be in the Championship next season and AS say Sheffield Wednesday have an advantage over the rest to sign the Leeds owned player.
