The idea that Folarin Balogun could leave Arsenal for Inter Milan this summer is growing in Italy, but only if the Gunners accept what the Italians are offering.
That hasn’t been the case so far, but there is still hope that the USA international’s desire to join them helps the Serie A side after he was barely used by Mikel Arteta during pre-season.
Gazzetta dello Sport have a big article on it on Wednesday, where they explain the situation and provide an update on what has been happening around the Arsenal player.
The newspaper report there is a desire from Inter’s side to get a deal done for the 21-year-old, but they are also keeping the option of Mehdi Taremi open, just in case.
Going back to the Arsenal player, it’s revealed that, through intermediaries, the Serie A club ‘have constant contact’ with their London counterparts, and ‘the phones rang yesterday too’.
They are aware that Balogun ‘already sees himself’ in the black and blue shirt, and has ‘repeated this’ to those in charge at the Gunners, who are ‘not counting on him’ for next season.
What the player says ‘holds weight’, as tends to be the case in most negotiations, but it all comes down to the money at the end of the day.
AS Monaco have already had an offer of €30m rejected, because the request is of €10m, while Inter currently have a ‘nest egg’ of €35m and are ‘waiting to make a decisive move’.
There is hope that Arsenal can lower their requests, especially with the knowledge that Inter are likely to make a profit on the player down the line, which the Premier League side could benefit from with a clause in the deal.
