West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca has been labelled a ‘phenomenon’ and backed to shine in the Premier League.
The striker joined the Hammers in a €36m deal from Sassuolo in the summer, with David Moyes and co finally spending big to get the striker they’ve long wanted.
The move to England is Scamacca’s second spell outside of Italy, having also spent time in the Netherlands with PSV earlier in his career but not enjoying much success.
After a slow start to life at the London Stadium there was a slight fear that could repeat at West Ham, but those concerns are proving to be unfounded in recent weeks.
The striker has slowly started to integrate himself into the West Ham team and started scoring goals as a result, scoring against Fulham and Wolves in the Hammers’ last two Premier League games.
He’s also been scoring in the Europa Conference League and former Italy Under 16 and 17 coach Bruno Tedino has backed him to continue to shine.
“I believe a lot in young people who train well,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport, relayed by Ita Sport Press.
“Scamacca, I made him debut in the Azzurri shirt in 2014 against Poland then he always participated in our internships. He played against France in 2015 with the Under-17.
“Physically he’s a colossus and he’s also adept with shooting and has a right hand that strikes the opposition goalkeepers.
“He’s a phenomenon and will do well in the Premier League, but he finds completely different football, with no tactics and with people going 500mph to recover the ball even 70 metres away.
“There is a completely different muscularity compared to the Italian youngsters. Coming back to Scamacca, I am sure he will do very well because he is ready for the big leagues having great technique but above all a good character.
“He’s intelligent, he doesn’t let his head get too big and he understands everything the coach tells him.”
