There’s worry in the entourage of former Aston Villa player Charles N’Zogbia, according to French newspaper L’Equipe on Thursday.
The footballer, released by Aston Villa at the end of his contract this year, had been looking for a club to sign for on a free agent basis.
Succesful talks had been held with Ligue 1 club Nantes about a move to France, and the deal got as far as medical stage. The tests showed up a heart condition and L’Equipe say further tests haven’t been able to put everyone’s mind at rest.
It’s explained that last night there remained a ‘debate among specialists to determine whether it prevented him from continuing his career at the highest level’.
Several footballers have had heart conditions found during medical tests, and then after further testing been passed clear to continue with the rest of their career. However, L’Equipe point out that pessimism prevails in the player’s camp over the possibility of the 30 year old continuing.
N’Zogbia’s last appearance for Aston Villa was in a 4-0 loss to Everton in November 2015.
