On Tuesday afternoon we covered a report from France which stated Lyon had upped their Memphis Depay offer to €18m. Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe also says there’s been a third Lyon bid, but they put the amount at €17m, which would lead one to believe the bid is £15m and the conversion rates used differ.
The Dutchman is a priority signing for Lyon, who even contacted Louis van Gaal through Gerard Houllier to know more about the situation of the 22-year-old.
L’Equipe report Lyon have reached an agreement with Depay over a long term contract, so that part of the transfer is already sorted out. Personal terms may have been a worry going from Manchester United to Lyon, but Depay hasn’t made it so.
Lyon’s latest offer for Depay still isn’t enough to convince Manchester United, and the Ligue 1 club are finding it difficult to ‘decipher the true intentions’ of the Premier League giants.
Lyon would ideally want to complete a deal before this weekend’s clash against Marseille, so that the player could be presented at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
At the same time, Lyon are also in touch with other alternatives, but signing Depay is their first choice.
