Tipsbladet cover comments from the Brentford manager today made to Viaplay, in which he praises the 24-year-old for his performances and the manner in which he’s stepped up this season.
Damsgaard has been earning rave reviews for his displays for Brentford across this season, having seemingly found his feet at the club.
He had initially struggled since his €15m move from Sampdoria in 2022 but is now starting to shine, with two goals and seven assists in 20 games in the Premier League so far.
Those numbers make him one of Brentford’s top performers this season, with Damsgaard four clear in the assist charts of Mbeumo.
The latter is undoubtedly Brentford’s star man and has continued to prove that his season with 13 goals and three assists in the Premier League so far.
Frank is more than happy to acknowledge that but believes Damsgaard has been right up there for Brentford as well this season.
“Mikkel has been really good for us. Perhaps our best player, together with Bryan Mbeumo,” he told Viaplay when asked about his fellow countryman.
“It is a mixture of the fact that it has been a long period of time when he was out, so it took him time to get into gear. As he got into gear, he picked up another injury and it took him a while to get back up.
“During that he has become stronger and can now withstand the amount of training and intensity that must be played with when you play for us and me in the Premier League.
“Right now, he is on his way to being one of the most important – if not the most important – in terms of tying things together. He has good figures for goals and assists, but it is just as much the third-last pass, because he ties things together and makes things happen, that makes him dangerous.”
