AC Milan have reached the ‘basis of an agreement’ with striker Divock Origi to join them on a free transfer when he leaves Liverpool this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the deal is now a ‘marriage destined to be celebrated soon’.
Origi is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer when his current contract comes to an end, with the player and club more interested in a separation than a renewal at this point.
Milan have been named as one of the sides keen on his signature if he is available on a free, with several reports over the last few days and weeks indicating that they were ramping up their efforts to get him.
Calciomercato now pick up on that is a big way, saying the Liverpool man is the ‘precise choice’ for Milan chief Paolo Maldini, who is ‘crazy about his qualities’.
It is that which has led him to seek out a deal with the striker, and that is now on the verge of being done as Origi has told Liverpool he won’t be extending his deal at Anfield.
Indeed, he is ‘excited’ about playing for Milan, and so Maldini and fellow Milan chief Frederic Massara have ‘found an agreement’ with Origi’s agents for a ‘multi-year contract’ worth €4m a year.
That agreement is in place but not signed, so now the Italian side plan to take advantage of the international break to get that done.
The feeling is that will happen CM speculate it could be done very quickly, even going as far as to suggest it is ‘perhaps hours’ before things will be finalised.
Either way, the ‘countdown’ is on and we are now in the ‘decisive’ phase of things, with Origi leaving Liverpool and seemingly on his way to Milan.
