De Telegraaf have a worrying Dutch slant on Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham on Sunday, and that is that no Netherlands player got a minute. Vincent Janssen was out of Tottenham’s selection due to a niggling fitness issue, Memphis Depay was out of Man United’s selection due to a Jose-Mourinho-doesn’t-seem-to-rate-him issue, and Michel Vorm and Daley Blind both remained glued to the bench.

Vorm is a reserve goalkeeper and knew that when he joined Tottenham, and Depay’s situation is long term, so there’s more concern over Janssen. Despite him being out through injury, De Telegraaf take the opportunity to look at his situation.

Whilst Tottenham fans are said to have been impressed with the Dutchman’s effort, it’s stated some in England are comparing the player to Roberto Soldado. Like all the players, Janssen is said to have a ‘problem with his employer’, a not getting picked problem, and there’s some woe from a Dutch perspective, with them countering it’s ‘perhaps too early’ to write the player off.

Screen Shot 2016-12-12 at 14.51.11It’s more than too early, Janssen is barely half way into his first season for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, there’s still quite a bit of time left this season alone to turn things around.

Perhaps there should be more worry for Daley Blind. Jose Mourinho has said he doesn’t see the Dutchman as a central defender, and he appears to be down the list as a left back right now too. It’s unlikely Mourinho sees Blind as a midfielder, given he’s already labelled him a left back, and the once very in favour player is now struggling for prominence.

Janssen is just 22 years of age, the same as Depay. If he’s in the same situation as the Manchester United player in a year then that will be the time for real worry.
