Kylian Mbappe scored a great winner for PSG on Tuesday evening, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side took a 1-0 lead from their first leg Champions League match.

Madrid looked to have travelled to attempt to get a 0-0 draw and there wasn’t the threat from Los Blancos which would usually be expected. That may be partly down the away-goals rule change, but Carlo Ancelotti is inevitably receiving some criticism.

The Italian manager arrived from Everton last summer, when he was happy to turn his back on Goodison Park, and the project he was trying to build with the Liverpool club, for a return to the bright lights of Real Madrid.

Of course, swapping Everton for Madrid isn’t controversial, and Ancelotti knew the pressure would be on him. Wednesday’s edition of Sport now says Florentino Perez ‘considers kicking Ancelotti out’ just months after he snatched him from Everton, and that Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp is a candidate to replace him.

Sport explain that some at Madrid feel Ancelotti’s methods are tired, and that shows at the highest level. Pochettino is one option for the future, with Klopp another, although his contract with Liverpool, and firm position at Anfield, is thought to be an issue.
