Over the past couple of days, former Liverpool fullback Ki-Jana Hoever has been a feature in the Dutch media.
The 20-year-old, who belongs to Wolverhampton Wanderers and was recently loaned to PSV, barely arrived in Eindhoven and saw the local media claiming he’s a weak defender, and may not be good enough for the Eredivisie side.
Bruno Lage has also criticised the player towards the end of last season, and he was asked about that by the Dutch press, and hit back at the coach, claiming he’s a hard-working footballer
Now Hoever will have something nice to read in the media, because as Liverpool assistant Pepijn Lijnders was interviewed by Voetbal International, he gave some compliments to the youngster
“Ki-Jana made a very strong impression from the first moment that he trained with the first team,” Lijnders told Voetbal International.
“He was fast, good, but above all very daring on the ball. He competed for the right back position behind Trent with Neco Williams. We also often used him centrally at the back.”
The Liverpool official wished Hoever well at the Dutch side, claiming he has enough potential to succeed at his new club.
“Hopefully the PSV chapter will bring a lot of matches, bring success with him and he can leave the stamp of talent behind in the Netherlands.”
Hoever joined Liverpool’s academy in a move from Ajax’s youth ranks back in 2018. He stayed at the club until 2020, only making four appearances for the first team, and then ended up moving to Wolves, where he has a contract running until 2025.
