The claims are continuing to come that Pepe Reina to Aston Villa is close and could be all agreed in the next few hours.

Earlier we covered a report from Calciomercato, and now it’s time for the Spanish media to get involved.

AS mirrors the information of Reina signing for the rest of the current season, with an automatic extension of another year as long as Aston Villa aren’t relegated to the Championship.

The 37 year old is ‘about to close’ a transfer to the English club and it’s being negotiated by his agent Manuel García Quilón.

As explained by the Spanish newspaper, Reina has always wanted to end his career playing, rather than being a continual substitute. It’s thought he’ll get that opportunity at Aston Villa, who have just been hit by the injury to Tom Heaton.

Meanwhile, Milan News reports their local club will be saving €8.3m in wages by letting Reina go, which suggests there’s no transfer fee involved in this one.
