Pep Guardiola, Andoni Zubizarreta and Luis Enrique are all heavily associated with Barcelona. Guardiola success managing Barcelona is what led him to Bayern Munich and then Manchester City, and the Catalan will forever be held aloft because of his successful time in charge of Barca.
Zubizarreta, better known as Zubi, is a Spanish goalkeeping legend who played for Barcelona, and became a sporting director after his playing career. Success in the role with Athletic Club Bilbao took Zubi to Barcelona to replace Txiki Begiristain, now at Manchester City, and he was in the job from 2010 until being sacked by Josep Maria Bartomeu in 2015.
Zubi was, and still is, much loved at Barcelona and whilst all his purchases weren’t perfect, it was felt that Bartomeu used him as a scapegoat for the FIFA transfer ban. The 55 year old is now in a similar role at Marseille, helping them build their project.
Luis Enrique is of course Barcelona manager and knows both Guardiola and Zubi well. Given all the connections it’s no surprise when the men want the same player.
Mundo Deportivo report on Wednesday that ‘Pep, Zubi y Luis’ are all keen on Theo Hernandez. The 19 year old defender is currently on loan at Alaves from Atletico Madrid and is stated as being a Manchester City objective.
Hernandez is primarily a left back but he can also play in central defence. Manchester City have been linked to the player’s brother Lucas in the Spanish media this week.
