Manchester City are now expected to wait before making any more approaches for the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica.
The player has an abdominal injury which has been leaving him out of games since October, and as he’s now expected to go under surgery, Pep Guardiola has decided to wait, according to A Bola.
The newspaper claims that Manchester City’s plans were to make a bid in January, but now they should only try for the signing during the summer window.
Having arrived from Barcelona last year, the player has only managed to make 13 appearances this season before the injury.
It’s also mentioned by A Bola that Manchester City are interested in the Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.
Even though the claims were never very convincing, it’s been reported by A Bola for a while, with them constantly saying that Pep Guardiola has been an admirer of him since Bayern Munich faced Benfica in the Champions League last season.
Grimaldo has a €60m release clause, and Ederson’s stands at €45m.
It’s worth noting that claims Guardiola travelled to Lisbon to personally check Grimaldo out, were incorrect. However, with Manchester City clearly being in need of a fullback revolution, Grimaldo wouldn’t be a surprising target.
