Samir Nasri signed for Sevilla on loan with an option to buy during the summer transfer window, and has been in impressive form for the La Liga side.
The 29-year-old made his move to Spain on transfer deadline day, but things could have been a lot different if reports in France are to be believed.
According to French media outlet Le 10 Sport, Sevilla’s sporting director Monci had Mathieu Valbuena on top of his wishlist.
However, Le 10 Sport say Sevilla were persuaded to sign Nasri because of Pep Guardiola’s close contacts in Spain.
It’s reported Guardiola found a way to convince Sevilla to sign Nasri, after Monchi has been following Valbuena for years.
Monchi certainly wouldn’t be too upset about missing out on the Lyon star, as Nasri has been doing very well at the Spanish club.
It’s worth pointing out Nasri recently claimed Guardiola wanted him to stay at Manchester City, and that he had to convince him to leave the club.
It would be odd for Nasri to make it up, and perhaps the French side of the story leans too heavily in Valbuena’s favour.
