Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Napoli’s Fabián Ruiz and considers the midfielder as an ‘absolute prospect’.

City are expected to have a busy summer transfer window, with many believing the squad needs something of an overhaul.

A midfielder is likely to be towards the top of their list, with veteran David Silva set to leave at the end of his contract.

Ruiz has been heavily linked as a result, with the Spanish midfielder enjoying another solid campaign despite Napoli’s struggles for much of the season.

Sky Italia journalist Francesco Modugno has now confirmed they are keen, revealing that Manchester City boss Guardiola is a particular fan.

“Fabian Ruiz? Real Madrid wants him,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by Napoli Magazine.

“Barcelona and Manchester City of Guardiola also like him. Pep Guardiola considers him an absolute prospect.

“Fabian arrived in Naples in June, but the operation had already started in January and was about to take him for 13 million less.

“It was a great purchase. Now I don’t know how much the players are worth and how much they’ll earn with the new market.”

It will certainly be interesting to see if Ruiz moves this summer and what price he will command if any transfer.

Before the Coronavirus outbreak, he would have demanded a considerable fee, but the virus has changed that considerably.

Even the wealthiest clubs, including Manchester City, have seen their finances hit hard and that will drastically affect the work they can do in the transfer window.

Similarly, clubs may be forced to sell their star men for much lower prices than they had anticipated, meaning players like Ruiz could be available for a fee most would consider a bargain.
