Last summer, Vincent Kompany left Manchester City after spending over a decade at the Etihad.
The Belgian returned to Anderlecht as a player-manager and according to Het Belang van Limburg, he has now become one of the investors at the Jupiler Pro League side.
The report’s headline reads: ‘Vincent Kompany: After player and manager, now also an investor’.
It’s claimed that Pep Guardiola tried to convince the Belgian to become his assistant at City.
The City manager is yet to fill in the void left by Mikel Arteta’s departure. The Spaniard left the assistant coach’s role at City to become Arsenal’s manager at the end of 2019.
Guardiola wanted Kompany to become Arteta’s successor, but he has now decided to continue in his homeland. HBVL state ‘Vince The Prince’ is the future of Anderlecht and he ‘consciously chose’ the Belgian side.
Another outlet, DH, also talks about Guardiola’s approach to bring Kompany back to City.
They state, ‘Given that Kompany’s wife is from Manchester, his first season at Anderlecht was a failure and that he dreams of becoming Manchester City’s head coach, one would have thought that he would’ve said yes to Guardiola.’
However, Kompany ‘refused’ to become Guardiola’s assistant at City as he wants to succeed at Anderlecht ‘at all costs’.
