This week’s edition of SportBild pushed Pep Guardiola forward as a potential new manager for Bayern Munich.
Niko Kovac was edged out of the German side earlier this month and Hansi Flick has been in charge of the side. It’s all going pretty well.
Bayern have the confidence in Flick to wait until the summer before appointing someone for the longer term, and it was inevitable that Guardiola would be dragged into things at some stage.
SportBild claimed the manager is no longer happy at Manchester City, although they suggested he’d be likelier to take on a national team as his next job.
Well, just like what happened with Leroy Sane over the summer, the Bild group have started talking to Bayern players about a possible City swoop.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and and midfielder Leon Goretzka were the men in question.
Goretzka is quoted as saying to Neuer: “I think you know Pep better than me.”
To which Neuer replied: “Pep knows you too for sure!”
The goalkeeper continued: “I hear this now for the first time. You will see what happens. What the decision makers at Bayern decide. For the past six days Hansi Flick has been doing very well. And those responsible will take a stand on the subject if they want him.”
Manchester City were very patient with Bayern Munich and their Sane flirting over the summer, it’s unlikely they’ll be quite so forgiving if the Bundesliga club start playing games over Guardiola.
