Ethan Ampadu left Chelsea on deadline day, in a surprise loan move to Spezia.
The club are currently 14th in Serie A, and after finishing 16th last season their aim will again be to avoid relegation from Italy’s top division.
This is Ampadu’s fourth loan away from Stamford Bridge, previously being sent out to RB Leipzig, Sheffield United and Venezia. Ampadu will want to get regular minutes to help his chances of featuring for Wales at the Qatar World Cup.
Chelsea may have helped their player in that regard, with Il Secolo XIX’s La Spezia edition reporting there’s a clause which encourages the Italian club to give the 21-year-old regular time on the pitch.
The claims are picked up by TMW, who state there’s a ‘penalty in the contract’ should Spezia not use the player often enough. In other words, they’ll have to compensate Chelsea financially if Ampadu isn’t given the level of game time which was agreed in negotiations.
Chelsea have also asked for assurances that Ampadu is used as a defender, with Thomas Tuchel believing that is the player’s best role.
