Patrick Vieira could be set for a surprise move to Serie B side Como as he eyes up his return to management post Crystal Palace.
That’s according to Serie B news, who say the Frenchman is ‘ready for a bench’ in the division and a reunion with former Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas in Italy.
Vieira has been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace towards the end of March after 18 months in charge at Selhurst Park.
He’s yet to be seriously linked with a return at any level, with it likely he was waiting until the summer to start somewhere new afresh after the disappointing end to his time with the Eagles.
That could be at Como, where Serie B news report that he could be set to take charge and lead a promotion push next season.
They explain that Como are aiming for promotion to the top flight as soon as possible and they view the former Crystal Palace manager as the right man to ‘give experience and quality’ to the squad.
They’ve already approached the Frenchman with an offer, and he is ‘evaluating’ the proposal with interest.
Vieira would arrive at the club at the behest of former teammate Cesc Fabregas, who is ‘betting’ on his Arsenal connection to try and secure a big-name manager for his side.
Everything currently depends on the end of the season. Como are not mathematically safe at this point but can secure their position in Serie B with a win over Ternana on Saturday. With permanence secured, that would allow them to think about the transfer window and next season.
That is one of the ‘guarantees’ that Vieira would like. He wants to ensure that there is a massive transfer campaign this summer, buying talent to aim immediately for promotion and then staying in Serie A, where Como haven’t been for 20 years.
