Valencia today presented Jason, a free summer signing from Levante, but when it came to speak to the media afterwards, the 25 year old winger wasn’t the main topic.

Los Ches are currently in a battle with West Ham to sign Maxi Gomez, and there’s endless claims coming from Spain, and England, which see both clubs taking turns to be the favourites for the Celta Vigo striker.

Today say claims from Spain that Valencia have given the Uruguayan 24 hours to make his mind up before they shelve the idea of the signing. That was then followed by further claims, from the Vigo media, that West Ham have won the race.

Marca quote Valencia president Anil Murthy as saying: “Patience. We compete in a crazy market, we compete with clubs that pay exorbitant amounts players, Valencia moves with intelligence to sign players at zero cost of this level (Jason), we want to grow sustainably and form a competitive club that we can enjoy.”

Marca are very clear that this message was meant for West Ham, and the money they’re throwing towards Gomez to convince him to move to the Premier League.

The Spanish newspaper don’t believe Valencia have given up yet.
