Patience. That’s how two major Portuguese sports newspapers describe today Sporting’s hopes of bringing Islam Slimani back to the club.
There are different versions of the story. First, O Jogo claims that Leicester City have really no intention of letting the striker leave on another loan.
Having paid €30m to sign him from Sporting in 2016, the Foxes would be more interested in recovering part of the investment made in the player.
That’s why the club would be demanding an amount of €20m, which Sporting, as usual, aren’t even thinking of paying.
But newspaper Record are a little bit more optimistic.
They say patience is the key only because there are more powerful competitors in the race against Sporting.
These other interested sides have the financial power to afford the demands, so the Lions must stay quiet until they have a chance to continue the negotiations.
Islam Slimani has already said he would accept a pay cut in order to return to the Lisbon side, so Sporting will just wait for their chance.
There doesn’t appear to be a great deal of rush from the player or club, but there’s a confidence a solution can be found.
