Ousmane Dembélé has less than eight months left on his contract at Barcelona and a new deal still doesn’t seem imminent.
Newcastle United are monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation at the Camp Nou and reports in France and Spain have indicated his agent has held talks with the Magpies.
Last month, Foot Mercato reported the winger’s camp are in discussions with the Tyneside club for a five-year deal worth €15m per season and a signing on bonus of €15m.
On November 10th, we covered claims made by ABC that Dembélé ‘has an offer from Newcastle on the table’. The two €15m payments were again mentioned.
New Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández has publicly stated he wants to retain the France international beyond this season. However, there has been no progress in their efforts to tie him down to a new contract.
According to Sport, the La Liga side are ‘still waiting’ for a response from the player’s camp after making the latest renewal offer. So far, there is ‘no news from Dembélé’.
The Camp Nou side believe the former Borussia Dortmund man wants to continue, but the report warns that ‘patience has a limit’.
Despite these veiled threats, which have been ongoing for months, the player holds nearly all the power.
It would appear his camp have been pushing out claims, perhaps even the Newcastle one, to further pressure Barcelona.
