One of the more exciting games of the first week of Champions League football has to be Paris Saint-Germain against Arsenal.

The fixture, which will take place on the 13th of September at the Parc des Princes, will see Unai Emery’s new look Ligue 1 champions take on an Arsenal side on the up (judging by their recent results).

The signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Pérez will undoubtedly help the Gunners with their injury (Mertesacker, Gabriel) and fitness (Giroud) crisis, and it will be a very interesting game.

According to Thomas Meunier, one of Paris Saint-Germain’s new recruits, the game could help define the Ligue 1 champions’ European campaign, despite its importance being played down due to its early appearance in the fixture list.

In a press conference, relayed by Canal Supporters, ahead of their weekend match up against Saint-Etienne, the right-back said: “Pressure? No, it’s still the beginning of the season. You can’t judge too soon. If we manage to get a good result against Arsenal, we’ll show everyone. We’ll show we’re looking at the first spot in the group, and more.

“It’s a really interesting game that can give us an advantage. The team spirit is positive. The manager is drilling in his work philosophy, professionalism and the group is reacting well.”

In similar fashion, a good result away from home for Arsène Wenger’s men would certainly be a statement of intent following some rather disappointing recent Champions League campaigns.

We’re certainly looking forward to it.
