West Ham’s Pablo Zabaleta has been speaking to Cope in Spain (via Marca) and been asked about Mauricio Pochettino taking over at Real Madrid.

With Zinedine Zidane today announcing he’s resigned as the club’s manager, after winning three successive Champions League trophies, many Spanish football interviews will find a way to squeeze in questions about the vacancy.

With Zabaleta and Pochettino there’s more to it, the Argentine compatriots were teammates at Espanyol, so the Spanish media will believe the West Ham defender has some insight.

On Pochettino potentially taking over from Zidane, Zabaleta said: “He’s doing a great job in England, he recently extended his contract with Tottenham, he’s happy, but if he has the opportunity to train a big team, he will.”

That will probably go down down better with West Ham fans than their rivals at Tottenham.

Pochettino is the man being most reported on in Spain on Thursday as the country’s sport media try to work out who could be the next manager at Real Madrid.
