Chelsea’s Patrick Bamford signed for Burnley on loan just before the transfer deadline.

However, Aston Villa were also apparently keen on signing the 23-year-old, but couldn’t convince him to move to the Championship club.

Aston Villa owner, Dr. Tony Xia, was asked on Twitter about Aston Villa’s failed bid for the Chelsea star, to which he replied: “Roberto Di Matteo wanted to convince him and was even talking to his parents, agent, and friends, but he only wanted to play for a Premier League club this season.”

Bamford spent the last season on loan at Crystal Palace and Norwich City, but didn’t manage regular playing time. The 23-year-old is yet to make his debut for Burnley, but would be hoping to make a bigger impact this season.

Bamford has another couple of years left on his current deal at Chelsea, and is yet to make his debut for the Blues.
