Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke should be brought in by the Netherlands after his “outstanding” performance against Erling Haaland.
That’s according to journalist Aad de Mos via NAC Fans, who believes the Brighton defender deserves his shot alongside Virgil van Dijk in Ronald Koeman’s side.
Van Hecke has been impressing for the Seagulls this season, playing 90 minutes in all but one of the Premier League games he’s play in this season.
His best performance undoubtedly came before the international break when Brighton beat champions Manchester City 2-1 at home.
He had to come up against Erling Haaland in that game and largely kept the Norwegian striker quiet, despite him getting on the scoresheet in the defeat.
His performance received plenty of praise afterwards and even saw his fellow Netherlands internationals engaging in a joke when he arrived for international duty where they checked his pockets searching for Haaland.
Aad de Mos was certainly impressed by the performance and now believes that the Brighton man is the “new blood” that the Netherlands defence could do with.
“I would field Denzel Dumfries and Jorrel Hato as full backs. I would form the centre with Virgil van Dijk and Jan Paul van Hecke,” he said on Soccer News’ YouTube channel.
“He (Van Hecke) is a very good player who is doing very well at Brighton. I saw him against City, and he was outstanding. Some new blood in the centre wouldn’t hurt. He’s an excellent choice next to Van Dijk. I think they complement each other very well.”
