Frustrated with a lack of playing time at Everton, Ademola Lookman pushed to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
It was a venture he succeeded in, earning himself a move to RB Leipzig and the chance at regular first-team football away from Goodison Park.
Lookman had previously shone during a loan spell with Leipzig, and the hope was that he could not only rekindle that flame but also follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps and prove a big hit in Germany.
Plenty at Everton thought letting the youngster go was a mistake, but it seems that is not proving to be the case. Everton may have done well to get as much money as they did.
Bild cover Lookman’s situation at Leipzig today, and it’s not looking good for him at his new club.
The last game day saw the 22-year-old relegated to a watching brief, with him left out of the squad entirely for the clash with Augsburg.
So far this season Lookman has managed just three appearances in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League.
He’s failed to impress at the club, with manager Julien Nagelsmann even going as far as to say “others just do it better than him”. Hardly a glowing assessment.
That’s led to Bild describing him as a ‘flop’, going as far as to compare him with other English players who have failed at the club, namely Oliver Burke and Emile Smith Rowe.
Both of those players didn’t last long, and by all accounts, Lookman could be heading the same way unless things don’t turn around drastically. Everton, meanwhile, will be thinking they got themselves a good deal.
