Bryan Gil moving to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer was seen as a great deal for both the club and player.
The 20-year-old was coming off the back of a good season with Sevilla, in which he’d made 30 appearances and been a regular starter in La Liga. He’d also impressed with Spain’s U21 side, and went to the Olympics, picking up a silver medal in the process.
That was enough to impress Luis Enrique, and Gil was called into Spain’s UEFA Nations League squad. The plan for this season will have been to expand his game in the Premier League and then look towards the Qatar World Cup.
Clearly, things aren’t going that way, and the youngster has picked up just 629 minutes this season, with only 57 of those coming in the league. He hasn’t had any minutes in the competition since October, and AS explain that means he can’t be considered by Luis Enrique.
The newspaper says he’s facing ‘ostracism’ at Tottenham, and things haven’t improved since Antonio Conte arrived at the club. There’s clear concern about the situation, and how Gil’s World Cup dream will be drifting away.
Recent weeks have seen the player linked with loans to Barcelona and Sevilla, although there doesn’t appear to be anything concrete going on in terms of a transfer.
