One of Southampton’s best performers so far this season, Oriol Romeu has put all his injuries behind him and is showing the kind of form which was expected when he moved to Chelsea from Barcelona.
Romeu has always impressed when he’s been able to string games together and with 24 Premier League games played already this season, added to by 11 more matches in other competitions, the midfielder is having a settled, and therefore successful, season.
Sooner or later such consistent high level performances will bring admiring glances from elsewhere and the Catalan media have shone a light on a potential surprising transfer. In their Saturday edition, Mundo Deportivo say the Southampton player could be a good reinforcement for Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo say Sergio Busquets is ‘stroking his thirties’ and there’s no obvious replacement or player who can help share the load. Actually, Busquets is 28 years of age, only three years older than Romeu.
It’s nice recognition for Romeu that such a thing is considered a reasonable idea, but Busquets has a long time ahead of him yet.
