In case you weren’t aware, Newcastle United have taken an interest in Victor Osimhen, as Eddie Howe plans ahead at St James’ Park.
The first whispers of the rumours appeared towards the end of the January transfer window, even if nothing was going to take place then, and the Magpies are now expected to face staunch competition for the Nigeria international.
That’s according to Italian radio presenter Luca Cerchione, who took to his social media, relayed by Area Napoli, to report that Manchester United were also in the race for Osimhen.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Anthony Martial being out on loan and Edinson Cavani’s expected exit this summer mean Ralf Rangnick and co. will be looking for a striker sooner rather than later.
Osimhen has many of the attributes needed for success in the Premier League, which is why clubs such as Newcastle and Manchester United would be interested.
As things stand, Cerchione claims Osimhen interests three clubs, who are, ‘in order’, we’re guessing of how badly they want him, the Magpies, the Red Devils and Real Madrid.
It’s made clear that Newcastle would be ‘only in case they avoid relegation’, while the Spaniards would only move for him if they failed to sign either Kylian Mbappé or Erling Haaland.
Should Osimhen be sold, and that would take a big fee, then Gianluca Scamacca, still according to Cerchione, would be the chosen one to replace him.
