Lionel Messi’s contract at Barcelona expired on June 30th and even though the two parties wanted to continue their association, the La Liga side confirmed last week the superstar will leave the Camp Nou due to ‘financial and structural obstacles’.

The forward said goodbye to the Spanish giants in an emotional press conference on Sunday.

Paris Saint-Germain have been widely touted as his next destination, but there is a chance he could continue with Barca next season.

That’s according to La Porteria journalist Marc Marbà Prats, who explains the Blaugrana have made the ‘final proposal’ to the Argentine to play for them next season.

It’s said the 34-year-old and Ronald Koeman’s side are set to negotiate an offer this morning, which would come after he announced his exit and said goodbye to the Catalan club.

Barcelona’s ‘option is not completely closed’ and their CEO, Ferran Reverter, is in charge of these negotiations.

This is a new twist in the short saga that started less than a week ago and it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the Catalan media will react to this news.
