Neven Subotic’s on/off move to Middlesbrough is finally off. After claims and counter claims about a failed medical, Borussia Dortmund have revealed the player has to face surgery.
Subotic has faced repeated injury issues throughout his career, with quite a varied list, and this time around it’s a rib issue, according to Germany’s Kicker.
There will now be no transfer for Subotic during the current window, to Middlesbrough or anywhere else. It’s a shame for everyone involved, with Kicker reiterating that Borussia Dortmund had agreed a €10m fee with Middlesbrough for a transfer to take place.
Subotic will now go under the knife, and then go into another period of rehabilitation with Dortmund, possible looking at a transfer during the January window.
Injuries had helped push Subotic toward the Borussia Dortmund exit door, and now an injury has pulled him back through it.
