Arsenal are ‘one of the best three teams’ in the world and proved that with their comfortable win over PSV Eindhoven last week.

That’s according to PSV midfielder Joey Veerman, who admits he learned his lessons from the 4-0 loss at the Emirates last week in comments to Voetbal International.

Arsenal hosted PSV at home for the opening of their Champions League campaign last week and run out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.

It was a chastening evening for the Dutch side, who had headed to England with high hopes but saw them quickly dispelled by Mikel Arteta’s side.

They dominated throughout and could have enjoyed a much higher scoreline as a result, winning all of their head-to-head battles and controlling possession.

Veerman was one of those who struggled to make an impact in the game, with his performance criticised in the coverage of the defeat in the days afterwards.

The game was very much one full of lessons for the 24-year-old, something he is willing to openly admit.

“Playing in the Champions League is the best thing there is,” he said.

“You cannot make a comparison between those teams. Arsenal are one of the three best teams in the world. They are a class better than us. We then Go Ahead again.

“What I brought with me from London is doubling at fullback. I always tried to help fellow players, but that’s not right. From now on I will continue to play from my own man. I learned that from Arsenal.”
