Despite the expectation that Brentford fullback Mads Roerslev will soon be with the Danish national team, he wasn’t called up for their upcoming friendlies.
The 24-year-old has been a starter with the Bees for most of the season now, but is apparently still to prove that he deserves a place in the squad.
Danish outlet Tipsbladet today shares some quotes from Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand, who recently made the call-up for the friendlies against Switzerland and the Faroe Islands.
The coach claims that even though the Brentford player stayed out this time, he could soon get the chance to get his first cap for the national team.
“Mads is one of those who have moved to the top level in the last few weeks. He has had a good level in the past few years at Brentford, but especially in the second half against Chelsea there was a top level which was really good.
“If something happens to one of these four backs, he is the one I call.”
At Brentford since 2019, when he was signed from Copenhagen, Roerslev has 113 appearances for the club so far. He has 28 displays for the Bees this season, with the big majority of them being as a starter.
By mentioning the match against Chelsea, Hjulmand proves that he’s keeping an eye on the player, so it seems his opportunity may be just around the corner, and he should stay focused on that.
