Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has again insisted that Chelsea were his first choice this summer, as he’s been a huge fan of the club since he was a youngster.
The midfielder has been speaking to Telemundo about life at Chelsea so far, which has been far from plain sailing since his move earlier this year.
He joined the Blues in a €116m deal from Brighton in the summer transfer window, the latest in a series of big money moves from the club and following a transfer battle with Liverpool.
The Reds were initially the first to move for the player but ended up being caught in a tussle between Chelsea and his agents, who seemed to play both clubs against each and keep ramping up the price.
Caicedo ultimately made it clear he wanted to move to Stamford Bridge, leading them to pay significantly more for his signature and leave Liverpool in the dust.
He’s been unable to live up to his big price tag since his arrival, though, with the Caicedo on display so far nowhere near to the one that had shone at Brighton and led to the struggle for his signature in the first place.
That’s naturally led to questions about him and the transfer, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp even joking this week that they had dodged a bullet in that regard.
Caicedo isn’t concerned about any of that, though, and insists he was always determined to make the move to London over Merseyside.
“ I wanted to come here because they had shown me that they really loved me. It was something very nice for me, I decided quickly and said yes,” he said.
“The manager speaks my language and my relationship with him is easier. It’s very good. It was a little easier to join here. He is watching over us. More than all, I was the last one to arrive. I didn’t have a good preseason, he has protected me and I value that.”
“I have supported Chelsea and having a club shirt at my young age was something very emotional. I wanted Kanté’s, but there was no number.
“It was nice to have that photo as a souvenir and at my presentation it was something special for my mom and me. Chelsea has caught my attention because of the players that have been there. Kanté was one of my idols and it was nice when I found out that Chelsea was interested. It was one of my dreams as a child.”
