The January transfer window closed on Monday and on the deadline day, reports coming out of France stated West Ham United had been considering Layvin Kurzawa.

Apart from the Hammers, Newcastle United were also in the picture for the Paris Saint-Germain player.

He came off the bench in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Lille in the Trophée des Champions last August and that has been the only appearance for the Paris club this season. It made sense for both the left-back and the Ligue 1 side to part ways in the winter market.

L’Equipe on Wednesday say ‘it’s really not for lack of trying’ a move didn’t materialise. He was proposed to clubs across Europe, but they were either not looking for a fullback or were not interested in the 29-year-old.

On the last day of the January window, the Frenchman was offered to Bordeaux and Lille. He changed agents last month and the new representatives knocked on the Ligue 1 winners’ door.

A move to Lille pleased Kurzawa, but they were not keen on having him. The last option for him was to move to England, where David Moyes’ side are the ‘only one club’ who have ‘showed interest’ in the player.

However, for West Ham to sign the PSG defender, they had to let Arthur Masuaku move elsewhere. That didn’t happen and therefore, the Hammers couldn’t sign Kurzawa in the recently concluded window.
