Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web today features an interview with agent Gustavo Goni, who took the opportunity to speak about a few of his clients.
One of them is Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who’s been getting some attention from the international media lately.
Besides the good season the 28-year-old has been having at the Villa Park, there was also big coverage to the very weak rumours which linked him with a move to Manchester United this week.
Well, the change of clubs wasn’t a topic in the conversation, but Gustavo Goni had something to say about the goalkeeper’s form and how he managed to get there.
“He’s proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” Gustavo Goni told Tutto Mercato Web.
“He has everything it takes to be in that batch of goalkeepers: stature, personality, he’s good with his feet, good at going out and solid in goal. He’s the practical demonstration that great careers are also built with patience, respecting the stages.”
With Tutto Mercato Web mentioning that Martinez is now ‘among the big’ names in his position at the age of 28, Goni once again highlights the player’s ‘patience’ to get there.
“And he is because he had the patience to become one. It’s hard to find a weakness on him, he worked on everything. Moving to Aston Villa was a success, it’s true, and he’s happy, but he’d have shone at any club including Arsenal! He proved to be very strong there too, that the genius had come out of the lamp after Leno’s injury. He’s now in the national team and I’m sure he will take the starting shirt and never leave it.”
Since joining Aston Villa in a move from Arsenal last summer, Emiliano Martinez conceded 29 goals in 28 appearances, keeping 14 clean sheets so far.
He signed a four-year deal with the club.
