Everton striker Cenk Tosun has sung the praises of Leicester Citys’s Caglar Söyüncü, labelling the defender one of the best in the Premier League.
Söyüncü joined the Foxes in a £2m deal last summer but had to wait patiently for his chance at the King Power Stadium.
That chance came this season, with Harry Maguire’s big-money move to Manchester United opening up a slot in the heart of Leicester’s defence.
Manager Brendan Rodgers elected to give Söyüncü his opportunity to fill that hole, something the Turkish international has done with aplomb.
The 23-year-old has started and finished all of Leicester’s ten league games this season, as well as playing 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup.
His performances have not gone unnoticed either, with a series of impressive displays helping Leicester to third in the Premier League and earning him rave reviews from all corners.
One of those who has been watching is compatriot Tosun, currently of Everton, who did not hesitate to praise Söyüncü when speaking to Gazete Futbol.
“We have a tight match and training schedule, and so we do not see each other very often. But we telephone almost every day,” the Everton striker explained.
“He is a very young player who is hungry to keep evolving. At Altinordu he has been able to develop a good base, which he has developed with Freiburg.
“At Leicester, he did not have an easy time in the first year. But here I have to point out the importance of a trainer.
“His coach has trusted him after the sale of Harry Maguire and let him come to the forefront.
“Caglar is currently one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League. He expects a great future. I hope he continues to evolve and achieve much more with his performance at Leicester.“
