While they’re currently in the process of finalising the acquisition of Victor Osimhen from Lille, Napoli have other needs to address too.

One of them is the left-back position, where Faouzi Ghoulam has barely featured and Mário Rui cannot play every game.

Elseid Hysaj has been used there occasionally by Gennaro Gattuso, but the bottom line is a new player in the role would go a long way, and one name has been suggested to them by former Rieti director of football Malu Mpasinkatu: Celtic’s Boli Bolingoli.

The Parkhead resident, who arrived from Rapid Vienna last summer for a modest fee of £3m, enjoyed a decent start to the campaign before completely falling off the radar in 2020.

Playing just once, in a 3-0 win over Clyde FC in the SFA Cup in February, the former Belgium U16 international appears to be out of the picture under Neil Lennon, and unless he manages to convince him in the offseason to be picked over Greg Taylor, his time at Celtic could be quickly coming to an end.

Either way, Mpasinkatu believes Bolingoli would be an ideal acquisition for Napoli.

He told Marte Sport Live, relayed by Area Napoli: “A left-back for Napoli? Personally, I’d go for a full-back like Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo at Celtic: he’s Belgian, young enough at 25 and has an optimal quality to price ratio, and from that point of view he’s one of the best deals going.

“Looking at it, he’s not too young and has Champions League experience: he’s very strong, he can do a job at Napoli and not be excessively expensive”.

It seems like he ticks all the boxes, right?
