Liverpool and Chelsea were among the clubs to show concrete interest in AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen.
The Premier League duo missed out on the defender and his move to Real Madrid has been made official. Their failure to sign Huijsen has seen both look for a new target.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who state Liverpool and Chelsea are ‘on the lookout’ for Benfica’s Tomás Araújo.
They mention the Premier League winners and the Blues when covering Paris Saint-Germain interest in the centre-back.
PSG initiated talks to sign the 23-year-old last summer but didn’t proceed due to Milan Škriniar’s refusal to leave. The Portugal international, considered one of the most promising defenders, is still on their agenda for the summer window.
The Benfica player is attracting interest from other clubs including Liverpool and Chelsea. At this moment in time, none of them have made advances or offers to sign him.
Araújo has been battling with a groin problem for a while but continues to feature for the Eagles. Claims from Portugal have ruled out surgery, but Foot Mercato claim this may be a concern for his suitors.
For now, the Reds and Enzo Maresca’s side are only watching Araújo’s situation closely.
